Edward O. Weselcouch, PhD



Dr. Edward Weselcouch is a pharmacologist who has spent his career within the pharmaceutical and medical device industries in both large and small companies. The depth of his background allows him to participate in all phases of project development at MedVal, where his primary responsibilities include the preparation of scientific articles for publication in medical journals, the creation of presentation materials, and the supervision of work of other medical writers.

Dr. Weselcouch's broad foundation in pharmacology was acquired at The Upjohn Company and Bristol-Myers Squibb and includes areas such as autonomic pharmacology (calcium channels, adrenergic receptors), vascular biology (arterial thrombosis, prevention of restenosis), and treatment of myocardial ischemia, peripheral vascular disease, and stroke. He also has experience in the medical device arena, having served as a principal scientist in the development of a catheter-based local drug delivery system at Focal, Inc. Most recently, Dr. Weselcouch served as the Director of Pharmacology at InfiMed Therapeutics, Inc., where he supervised the in vitro and in vivo evaluation and development of the company's technology for sustained-release dosing of protein drugs and participated in the preparation of an IND submission for the company’s first product. In addition, he served as the company’s scientific spokesman during domestic and international partnering and financing activities.

At MedVal, Dr. Weselcouch has broadened his experience by serving as the primary writer for two rare genetic metabolic disorders, and in that role worked successfully with international physicians from diverse therapeutic areas. Most recently he has worked on three distinct pain products, including opioid, non-opioid, and topical analgesics. Other therapeutic areas that he has contributed to include treatment and consequences of hypertension, cardiovascular complications of diabetes, chronic occlusive pulmonary disease, women's health, and treatment of childhood epilepsy. Dr. Weselcouch earned his PhD in Pharmacology at Dartmouth College. He is a past member of the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, the Microvascular Society, and the American Society of Hypertension.
